I’m glad this old donkey has a hen to keep it company.
I love capturing different species of animals together. It’s especially great if they are interacting.
This pair I happened to stumble upon earlier this week in Scio, Oregon.
I saw the donkey surrounded by chickens and turned my car around to take some photos. By the time I got back to the spot, pulled over and waited for traffic to pass, there was only the one hen still scratching and pecking at the donkey’s feet, instead of a small flock.
No matter. I still like how this shot turned out. Click on the photo to view a larger version.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Great photo. I read an article where in someplaces Donkeys are used as “guard donkeys”. Maybe this one’s guarding the nest.
Thanks! I like that idea – a nest guarder.
