Over the years, each of our dogs has chosen their own cat. Or maybe it’s the cat who chooses their dog?
Whenever Francie wandered outside, Silver was right there tagging along behind. When Francie stopped, Siver would stand on her back legs to rub her head under Francie’s chin.
Good old Francie dog almost made it to 14 before we had to put her down a year ago this past December. She couldn’t hear anymore and could barely see or walk.
She was the best dog. Ever.
Silver thought so, too.
We weren’t the only ones to miss Francie after she was gone. Silver disappeared for several days. She was a friendly cat before, but when she came back she was skitterish. It took a year for her to really friendly back up to us again.
A friend who loves you unconditionally and takes you just as you are – even if you’re much different than they are – is hard to find. Silver and Francie had that kind of relationship.
May you find the same kind of friendship in your life. Cherish it if you are so fortunate.
